Senior School Dux Award

Criteria for deciding dux award for year 13/ NCEA level 3 students

  1. To be awarded to the student who has been entered for at least one external examination per subject except for subjects where there is no external examination, e.g. Religious Education.
  2. Internal achievement standards and practice examination results for external standards achieved during the current year for only University approved subjects will be considered.
  3. The student should have attempted a minimum of 18 credits in at least 5 subjects and achieved a minimum of 14 credits in at least 3 subjects. The maximum passed with A, M and E to be no more than 24 credits per subject.
  4. Only maximum of best 80 credits over 5 best subjects will be considered.
  5. Points for grades to rank the scores are excellence 4 points, merit 3 points, and achieved 2 points.
  6. Student with highest rank score based on the above criteria to be awarded dux of the school.
  7. In case of equal rank score based on the above criteria the total excellence grades from the best 5 subjects will be considered. If the rank score is still the same the next grade level which is merit will be considered. The student with the highest rank score will be awarded the dux. However, if even with merit grades taken into consideration the rank scores are equal, then the achievement grades will be considered to decide the dux of the school.
