Dear Parents/Caregivers

Assalaamu Alaikum WRWB

Cell phones and Other Personal Digital Devices

The school is aware of the governments new law on the Ban of mobile phones for students in school, that will come in to affect from the beginning of Term 2. As such, we would like to remind the parents and community of our current policy on student mobile phones use in school. The following policy and other policies can be found on our school Docs page.

A personal digital device is any privately owned digital device that is not part of any school-approved Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme.

Al-Madinah School does not allow students to bring personal digital devices to school. These are not necessary to have during the day.

We discuss the school rules about personal digital devices at the beginning of the year, and throughout the year as needed. Any changes to our school rules are communicated to students and our school community.

Parent/Caregiver and student responsibilities

If a parent/caregiver needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the office.

If a student brings a personal digital device to our school, the following guidelines apply:

  • The school does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen personal digital devices brought to the school but investigates any issues as appropriate.

Personal digital devices may not be taken on EOTC events.

Students are expected to follow our Digital Technology and Online Safety policy when using personal digital devices on school property or the school network.

 Inappropriate use

If a student is observed using a personal digital device, the student must hand it to a staff member immediately when asked. If possible, students should lock their device before handing it to staff. The device will be kept in the office and can be collected by the student at the end of the day or when appropriate as it may take time to complete any required investigation.

Inappropriate use of a personal digital device may include:

  • using the device when not permitted
  • any sort of bullying, including online bullying
  • taking photos or videos of other people without their permission
  • forwarding inappropriate messages or content.

Inappropriate use of a personal digital device is managed through the school Behaviour ManagementResponding to Digital Incidents, and Surrender and Retention of Personal Digital Devices policies and procedures, as appropriate.

ROUND THE BAYS

Some of our secondary school students, teachers and parents participated in Round the Bays on Sunday 3rd March. They walked 8.4km starting from Quay Street Auckland City, through the bays along Tamaki Drive finishing at St Heliers Bay.

We would like to thank our teachers and parent helpers who made it possible for our students to participate in this EOTC along with more than 20,000 participants.

Jazak Allah hu Khairan to Ust Sarah Landi, Ust Rehana Karim, Ust Rehana S Khan, Ust Hafsa, Ust Ziya, Br Rafiyudin Landi, Sr Naseem Karim, and Sr Rohina Janif for their support, effort, and hard work at Round the Bays.
