Dear Parents/Caregivers

TERM ONE – 2019

Welcome back all the staff, students and special welcome to all the new students. Thank you very much (Jazaakallahu khairan) to all the parents/caregivers for sending your child/children well prepared for school. You are requested to label all the stationery, uniform bags, pencil case etc.

The school starts at 8:30am. Primary students have morning fitness before school starts. Hence  all students are encouraged to participate.

Year 1 students are to be picked-up between 3.15pm – 3.35pm on Monday to Thursday and 2.15 – 2.35pm on Fridays.

All other students will be taken to the gate by class teachers and if they are not picked up by 3.40pm, they must wait in the verandah of Westney Road side of rooms near Rooms AD1, AD2 and AD3.  Please note that there will be no supervision after 3.40pm. Hence it will be the responsibility of the parents to take care of their child/children.

LATE/ABSENCES TO SCHOOL

Students who are absent from school must bring a note to school on the day the student returns, explaining the reason for the absence.   The note must show the date and parent’s signature. Unexplained or prolonged absences will be followed up as required by Ministry of Education.

For late arrivals secondary boys must get a late pass from the school office. Secondary girls from staff on duty in B block upstairs female staffroom and primary students from primary staffroom in upstairs A block.

Uniform purchase hours

Uniform will only be sold from Monday to Thursday starting from 3.30pm to 4.15pm.  Parents and caregivers are requested to come during the above hours.

 Fruit in School

Fruit in school programmes will start next week.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY

School will be closed tomorrow Wednesday 06 February for Waitangi Day.

Review and Reconsideration of 2018 NCEA external exam papers and portfolios.

This week NCEA students would be receiving back from NZQA their last years NCEA external exam papers.  The students should check their papers and if they have any concerns about marking or grades reported on nzqa website, they can apply for review or reconsideration.

Charges: reconsideration – $20.40 per standard for exam and portfolios. Reviews –free.

Due date: 26th February 2019.

SCHOOL FEES

School Attendance Dues and School Fees are $300 a year per student. There are two components included in the charge: 1. Attendance Dues are set at $246 per year ($61.50 per term) for each student. This is compulsory and the payment is a condition of enrolment.

  1. A school activity fee of $54 per year is set for each student. This fee covers items such as school prizes and certificates, subscriptions and additional library books. Note: – After the third child, subsequent children from the same family are free. Each year the full annual fees must be paid by the end of Term 2.

ROAD CROSSING

All students and parents must use pedestrian crossing for the safety of everybody.

HEALTH CHECKS AT SCHOOL

All year one and new student will be given health check consent forms.  Parent/caregivers are requested to complete the form and send it back to their class teachers.

DARUL ULOOM

Darul Uloom Classes has resumed from Monday. Class times as follows:

7.30am – 8.30am Monday – Friday.

3.30pm – 5.30pm Monday – Friday.

9.30am – 12.30pm Saturday.

Optional Classes

8.30am – 10am Monday – Friday.

GIRLS QURAN CLASSES

Girls from years 1 to 13 are encouraged to attend Qur’an classes taking place from 7.30am to 8.15am in BU 30 every day.

COMMUNITY SWIMMING PROGRAMME

This program for years 3 – 6 students will run from week 3 to 10 at the Mangere Pools on Tuesdays. More details will be given from the class teachers.

 SCHOOL HOURS

Students must be in school by no later than 8.20am.  The school finishes at 3.30pm from Monday to Thursday.  On Fridays the school finishes at 2.30pm.  All parents/caregivers must pick up their children immediately after the break.

 PASTORAL CARE

If any parent/guardian have any concerns about the pastoral care of their child/children including but not limited to counselling, bullying, issues in class or any other issues, should contact HOD pastoral care Ust Amjad Ali on amjada@al-madinah.school.nz. Privacy of the child will be fully respected. If any parent wants to speak to HOD guidance, they are most welcome.
