Principal’s Message

The governments new initiative is focusing on students’ achievements and attendance as they are both linked to each other.  Hence, the school is reviewing its students’ attendance as it has been noticed that several students are coming late to school on a repetitive basis.

A review team including AP, Mohammed Rizwan Hussein and LSC, Rehana Khan have been assigned a task of finding out as per why these students are coming late.  In doing so, they will be in touch with the teachers and parents to find the reasons and possible solutions.  Therefore, all parents and caregivers are requested to cooperate with the review team.

Revised Cellphone Policy

The updated policy is printed at the back of the newsletter. The related policies: Behaviour Management, Responding to Digital Incidents and Surrender & Retention of Personal Digital Devices can be found on our schooldocs website at al-madinah.schooldocs.co.nz   Use the username: al-madinah and password: westney to get access.

Life Education Program

Life Education provide programmes focused on Health and Well-being delivered through interactive learning experiences in school. Life Education will be in school Week 4 and 5 (20th to 31st May) for Years 1-8. The cost of the session will be paid by the school.

New Zealand Annual Tablique Ijtima

The annual Ijtima will be held at Al-Madinah School.  This will start from Asr on Friday 31 May to Fajr of Monday 03 June 2024.  All brothers are invited to attend.  Please encourage other brothers to attend as well.

Term 2 Gateway/Star Program

Alhamdulillah, 10 girls from year 12/13 completed their Level 4, Cyber Security Course in the holidays.  They have gained 10 credits at level 4.  This term years 12/13 girls and boys will be involved in many Gateway/Star Courses.

Secondary Boys Camp

This morning, the Years 7 to 10 boys and their teachers have gone on school camp in Rotorua. Any updates regarding the camp will be posted on the school website on the home page http://www.al-madinah.school.nz.

Cellphones and Other Personal Digital Devices

A personal digital device is any privately owned digital device that is not part of any school-approved Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)programme, this includes cellphones, ear buds, headphones and smartwatches, etc.

Al-Madinah School does not allow students to bring personal digital devices to school.

We discuss the school rules about personal digital devices at the beginning of the year, and throughout the year as needed. Any changes to our school rules are communicated to students and our school community.

Parent/Caregiver and student responsibilities

If a parent/caregiver needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the school office. Similarly, if a student needs to call home or otherwise, they should use the phones services in the school office.

If a student brings a personal digital device to our school, the following guidelines apply:

  • The device would be immediately confiscated and stored away.
  • The school does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen personal digital devices brought to the school. This applies to devices that are lost, stolen or damaged while confiscated or stored away by the school.
  • The device would be returned after any required investigation is over and it will only be returned to the parents/caregivers.

Personal digital devices must not be taken on EOTC events.

Inappropriate use

If a student is caught with a personal digital device, the student must hand it to a staff member immediately when asked. Students should lock their device before handing it to staff. The device will be kept in the school or Principal’s office and can be collected by the students’ parent/caregiver when it is ready to be picked up as it may take time to complete any required investigation.

Inappropriate use of a personal digital device is managed through the school Behaviour Management, Responding to Digital Incidents, and Surrender and Retention of Personal Digital Devices policies and procedures, as appropriate

In addition to bringing personal device to school, which is not allowed, if the student is also caught using it inappropriately, which includes:

  • Online bullying
  • Taking photos or videos without permission
  • Forwarding inappropriate messages or content
  • Repeated offense of students being caught with personal devices.
  • Etc

Depending on the severity of the inappropriate use, the student will be given a verbal warning, be stood down or suspended.
