Careers
Plan for your present and the future
Careers education at Al-Madinah School helps students to plan and manage their learning and career pathways.
Careers education helps students develop self- awareness, explore learning opportunities in and out of school, explore employment opportunities, make and adjust plans and to take appropriate actions.
The school invites representatives from various institutions and mainly from University of Auckland, Auckland University of Technology (AUT), MIT, and Unitec to talk about their programmes and entry requirements.
Students get the opportunity to visit open days and participate in experience days in various tertiary organisations. They visit Coca Cola careers expo to get more information from the providers about courses, entry requirements and apprenticeships.
Every year students in years 10, 11 and 12 are provided with course information booklet to make their subject decisions at key transition points.

Intermediate
Years 7 to 10 students have careers education integrated into all learning areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Technology, Health and PE, The Arts and Islamic Studies.
Within the learning areas, students talk about how the subject content or tasks will help them in different jobs. Students learn about different job markets and the changing nature of jobs.
Senior
Years 11, 12 and 13 students have one period per week as a careers class. Students use this time to research about studies and jobs of their interest, make CV and targeted resume, make applications to institutions and apply for scholarships.
Through Gateway and STAR Programmes, years 12 and 13 students are given opportunities to work in organisations/jobs of their choice/availability/acceptance by employers and gain some credits as well. Students gain job skills, confidence and ideas about job/study choices. Year 11 students do two days of work experience to gain some first-hand experience on either job of their choice or any other job. This also helps students decide on subjects for the following year.
